Basic Overview

Lijiang sits in northwest Yunnan. It boasts Lijiang Ancient Town (World Cultural Heritage), Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and profound Naxi Dongba culture. Lijiang owns magnificent high‑altitude natural scenery including snow mountains, alpine meadows, gorges and lakes.

• Jade Dragon Snow Mountain: Famous snow‑capped mountain close to Lijiang. Snow‑covered peaks, glaciers and alpine meadows create spectacular views.
• Blue Moon Valley: Under Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Bright turquoise glacial water forms multi‑level lakes, one of Lijiang’s most photographed spots.
• Tiger Leaping Gorge: One of world’s deepest gorges. Fast‑flowing Jinsha River runs between steep cliffs, very popular for hiking lovers.
• Lashi Lake Wetland: Plateau wetland lake. Migratory birds gather here in winter, with peaceful pastoral landscape.

Historical and Cultural Sites

Lijiang Ancient Town is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. It preserves complete Naxi traditional architecture and Dongba culture relics.

• Lijiang Ancient Town (Dayan Ancient Town): World Cultural Heritage. Ancient wooden‑tile houses, criss‑cross stone lanes and flowing brooks show classic Naxi water‑town style.
• Black Dragon Pool Park: Classic garden scenic spot. The pool offers perfect reflection view of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Many ancient buildings are moved and preserved inside the park.
• Mu’s Residence: Former mansion of Naxi chieftain. It is known as “Forbidden City of Southwest China”, shows local official architecture style.
• Shuhe Ancient Town: Quiet well‑preserved ancient town, original Naxi folk‑town atmosphere with fewer tourists.

Local culture experiences

Lijiang is home to Naxi ethnic group. Dongba culture and Naxi ancient music are precious intangible cultural heritage.

• Naxi Ancient Music Show: Listen to ancient Naxi ritual music performed with old traditional instruments.

Travel tips

Best travel time: March‑May and September‑November. Altitude of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is high; prepare warm clothes. Do not run violently to avoid altitude sickness. Book snow‑mountain tickets in advance during peak travel seasons.
