Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor

Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor lies in Lintong District, Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. It serves as the eternal resting place of Ying Zheng, the founder of China’s first unified feudal dynasty, the Qin Dynasty.
Built for more than 38 years, this grand imperial mausoleum mimics the layout of the ancient capital city. The towering earth mound stands as the core tomb, surrounded by complete sacrificial architectures, burial pits and accessory relic sites, forming a magnificent underground imperial empire.
The world-famous Terracotta Army is the most stunning highlight of the mausoleum complex. Thousands of life-sized pottery warriors, horses and chariots feature distinct facial features, varied costumes and vivid postures. They perfectly reproduce the powerful military lineup of the Qin Empire, showcasing extraordinary craftsmanship and grand momentum.
A great number of precious cultural relics such as bronze chariots, weapons and daily utensils have been unearthed here. These artifacts fully reflect advanced smelting technology, artistic aesthetics and national strength over 2,200 years ago.
As an unparalleled imperial burial complex, the mausoleum witnesses the unification of ancient China, profound royal funeral culture and brilliant ancient civilization. It meets multiple UNESCO heritage criteria, standing as an invaluable treasure recording the origin and glory of Chinese imperial history.
Visiting this ancient site allows people to travel back to the powerful Qin era, and appreciate the remarkable wisdom and creative power of ancient Chinese people.
